What exactly is hydrosol?

Hydrosols are the unsung heroes of the plant medicine world.  As the co-product of the steam distillation process used to extract essential oils, these liquids carry all of the benefits and therapeutic qualities of the plant, or plants in our case, as we have been co-distilling multiple plants together!  When we distill, both liquid and oil drip out of the condensation tube.  The oil, being less dense than water, floats to the top and the water, or hydrosol, sits on the bottom.  We separate them and are left with a little bit of essential oil and a lot of hydrosol!  This water is aromatic and fragrant, carrying all of the medicinal qualities of the essential oil but is much more mild and easy to use.

What Does it Smell Like?

Steam extraction is used to extract essential oils. Hydrosols are the hydrophilic(water loving) compounds held in suspension when the essential oil is partitioned off for use later. With hemp, this water soluble fraction invokes scents that are normally reserved for hemp gardeners. Very earthy, grounding and almost reminiscent of a freshly cut field. Each co-distillation will bring along the water soluble essences of other medicinal herbs used. Cooling and grounding, flower essences can help transform your well-being, soul development and mind body connection.

How do I use it?

Spray Directly on your face: mild enough to use right on the skin.
Mist dry or irritated eyes.
Culinary: Cocktail spritz, finishing aroma on dishes and sauces

Other uses include:
in your car, on bed linens, in the restroom, on your mattress when the sheets are in the wash,  on your children's skin for diaper rash, to smudge and clear energy from a room or a house,  in your smelly ski boots after a long day on the hill, in your teenage boy's bedroom, etc etc.  The uses are countless so use frequently and liberally!!
We suggest keeping your hydrosol bottle in the fridge.  This extends the shelf life as hydrosols can go bad if left in the heat or not used quickly enough, however we have hydrosols in the fridge from 2 years ago that still smell amazing!
