Do You Know Your Cannabinoids?
How Well Do You Know Your Cannabinoids?
We're about to find out...
First off, what are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are the various chemical compounds produced by cannabis flowers that are responsible for relieving pain, anxiety, nausea, and inflammation. The main cannabinoids are THC and CBD, and those are just 2 of at least 86 other cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids can be extracted from the plant through combustion, or other extraction processes like distillation.
CBG(a): "The Mother of All Cannabinoids"
CBG is often referred to as the "Mother of All Cannabinoids" because it is the very first link in the chain of cannabinoid synthesis (see figure at the bottom) and contains all of the medicinal benefits of cannabis with no extra steps of conversion; relieving pain, anxiety, seizures/epilepsy, regulating immune system health, stimulating appetite and bone healing/growth, and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. All of the major cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBN, and so on) must first develop as CBGa.
CBD: "The Chill One”
CBD is the primary non-psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis, primarily in the hemp plant. CBD can be used to relieve anxiety and inflammation and treat epilepsy and seizures, along with many other relevant health balances. CBD is produced when heating raw cannabis flower, converting CBD(a) into CBD. We will explain CBD(a) later.
THC(Delta9)/THCa: "The Psychoactive"
Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, otherwise known as THC, is the onlypsychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis that gets you “high.” THC is produced when heat is applied to raw cannabis flowers containing high contents of THC(a). THC is an anti-inflammatory as well as it is effective in relieving pain and is ideal for treating arthritis and seizures. All of our products always contain < 0.3% THC by regulation.
CBD(a): “The Relief”
CBD(a) is produced from the raw flower of the cannabis plant before it undergoes any treatment, such as aging. Since we have to extract CBD(a) from raw flowers, it is best used in topical applications such as our 1500mg Balm. CBD(a) has a high transdermal availability meaning that it absorbs into the skin very well and is able to soothe and heal bruises and cramps.
CBN: “The Sleep Aid, Among Others...”
CBN is a "minor cannabinoid." It is not produced directly from the cannabis plant, but forms from the exterior oxidation of the THC molecule. CBN only occurs naturally in trace amounts of aged cannabis. Our CBD:CBN tincture is an effective sleep-aid and is best known for treating insomnia, as well as regulating your immune system, stimulating appetite, and relieving chronic pain. Luckily, CBN has no psychoactive effects so it will not get you high.
